ME8
Bakery in Rainham
Rainham is the quietest and most residential of the Medway towns, and the furthest east before Kent turns into open country. It is also the one where people are most likely to be feeding a family at the weekend rather than grabbing something on the way through, which is exactly what a Saturday bake is for.

Order by the Thursday. Baked and out to you on the Saturday morning, 8am to midday.
Collection and delivery in Rainham
Collection
Collection runs Saturday from 8am to midday. Rainham is the far end of Medway from where we bake, so if you would rather not make the trip, delivery is the easier option.
Running late? We hold your order until 12:30.
Local delivery
Rainham and Rainham Mark are both covered. Free over twenty pounds, on the Saturday morning. If you are right on the eastern edge, the postcode check will tell you honestly whether you are in or out.
Free over £20.00. Your postcode is checked against the real Medway boundary before you pay, so you will never be promised a delivery we cannot make.
What we know about Rainham
- Rainham is the eastern edge of Medway. Go much further and you are into Swale and out of our delivery area entirely, which is why the postcode check at checkout matters more here than anywhere else we cover.
- Berengrave Nature Reserve is a former chalk quarry that has been left to go green, and it is the sort of place a picnic loaf actually gets eaten rather than photographed.
- Rainham Mark sits between here and Gillingham and the two run into each other, so plenty of people give a Rainham address on an ME8 postcode. Both are inside the area, so it makes no practical difference.
- The housing is overwhelmingly post-war semis and family estates rather than terraces or flats. That shows in the orders: bigger loaves, more boxes of rolls, more things meant to be shared at a table.
- Rainham station is on the same line as the rest of Medway but it is the end of the practical commuter run, so weekends here are properly local. People are at home on a Saturday morning, which is when we deliver.
What we bake
Eleven things, done properly, rather than forty done adequately. Slow fermented sourdough loaves, croissant sourdough, focaccia, brioche and pastries, all made by hand by Hillary Kongwa and made for the Saturday you choose. Feeding a crowd in Rainham? Our catering and events side builds a menu around the day rather than selling you a set package.
Questions people in Rainham ask
- I am on the edge of Rainham. Do you still deliver?
- Put your postcode into the basket and it will tell you before you pay. We check it against the real Medway boundary rather than guessing from the first half of the postcode, because ME8 runs across more than one district.
- Is Rainham too far for delivery?
- No. It is the furthest part of Medway from us, which is part of why there is a twenty pound minimum, but it is inside the area and we come every Saturday.
- Do you deliver to Rainham in Essex or Rainham in London?
- No, and it is worth saying plainly because there are three Rainhams. We only cover Rainham in Kent, the one in Medway with an ME8 postcode.
